TENETS OF MY ART

The following defines my ultimate goals on becoming an artist and illustrate why I take the steps I do, to further in my quest to be the illustrator I see in my mind.

1. Pencil work will be done in blue because I love seeing other artists work in blue too. It just looks so cool. Pencil work must be finished enough to live on its own.
2. Inks must be strong enough to live on their own as well. Even though I have other steps I know I'll do with each illustration I want each step of my art to be strong and clear. And as much as I love comic book inking, I don't want my work to look or feel like a comic book. I want my art to have a more traditional, old-style crow quill and ink look - even though everything I produce is digital in nature.
3. Colors need to have a hand crafted, water-color style look and feel to them. I'm drawn to great water color illustrations so that's where I want to go with my art. The style might not mesh well with the inking I want to do but thats why I'm on this quest - to solve that challenge my own way.

That is the gist. My tenets are to help me focus on my goals. I'm the type who loves all great art and want to make it too, but I just don't have a lifetime to study art anymore so I've decided to focus on my tenets.

My ultimate goal is to produce fantasy art that I am proud of and hopefully others will find enjoyable and perhaps one day inspirational.

DIGITAL

Clip Studio Paint - because it has the BEST inking engine available.

XP-Pen 15.6’ Pro - because it’s the perfect size and works pretty damn well.

Digital Brushes and Pens - I create my own brushes, pens, and assets in CSP. 

TRADITIONAL

Paper - I prefer smooth Strathmore Bristol over anything else.

Pencils - Koh-I-Noor Mephisto mechanical pencils, red or blue leads; a Saedtler mechanical with graphite;  some brown, blue, and white Prismacolors.

Pen & Ink - Windsor Newton #2 with Speedball Super Black, Pentel Sign Pens, or PITT pens.
